Amalia Cascina

Amalia was started in 2003 when the Boffa family from Liguria purchased an old farmhouse and a half dozen hectares of vineyard around Monforte d’Alba. A new winery was constructed where Paolo Boffa makes a range of 7 wines in very limited quantities. With no formal training Paolo’s winemaking is instinctive and with help from enologist Piero Ballario, he is creating wines of great personality with classic Monforte structure. Only French oak of various sizes is used for ageing the wines, with very little new wood used each vintage. The Coste de Monforte, from one of the finest crus in the commune, is a wine of massive power and density that whilst approachable now, would handsomely repay cellaring. The Barbera Superiore, from 0.4 hectares of old vines in the S.Anna cru, sees 2 years in barrique and is rich and concentrated. The estate is also home to a real rarity, a Rossesse di Monforte. Only around 5 hectares of this white variety exist, all in the village of Monforte and it produces a floral and creamy wine, with great bite on the finish.
