Chateau Pontet-Canet

A 5th growth of 81 hectares in size, Pontet was owned by the Cruse family for over 100 years until bought by the Tesseron family of Cognac in 1975. It was in poor condition at the time and continued to make mediocre wine for the next two decades until Alfred Tesseron took over in 1994. Since then it has enjoyed a meteoric rise in both stature and price. With 82 hectares under vine and biodynamic since 2004, the wines of Pontet are among the most powerful of the Médoc and what they occassionally lack in finesse, they more than make up for in richness and complexity.
