Cloudy Bay

Founded by David Hohnen of Cape Mentelle Vineyards in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first wineries in the then underdeveloped Marlborough. The undoubted quality of the wine, allied to some clever marketing made it a cult success in the 1990’s and the property was bought by LVMH in 2003. Quality remains at the forefront with only fruit from their own vineyards near Renwick, the best part of the Wairau, used and a strict selection which can see as much as half of the wine made not included in the final blends. The current winemaker is former banker Daniel Sorrel who has since worked at various to NZ estates, as well as at Chapoutier, Newton and Cape Mentelle.
