Home > 2001 MIRU MIRU, Marlborough Brut
Founded in 1983 by Jane Hunter and her late husband Ernie, HunterÉs is deservedly considered amongst the top half dozen estates in the region. From a family of South Australian grape growers and a trained viticulturalist herself, Jane has been at the helm for 25 years and has long been a passionate spokesman for Marlborough wine. Her years of service to the industry have been acknowledged with an OBE and a CNZM. The winemaker here is Gary Duke and Dr Tony Jordan, the legendary Australian winemaker, acts as a consultant. There are over 100 hectares of vineyards in the Wairau Valley, planted to 5 white varietals and Pinot Noir and all carry sustainable certification. The Sauvignon Blanc is more elegant and subtle than most from Marlborough, with a Loire like texture, whilst the Kaho Roa is a selection of the finest fruit that sees a small amount of oak. The sparkling wine has made great strides in quality over the past few years and is toasty and mellow. The aromatic whites are made in small quantities and all show great varietal purity, whilst the Pinot Noir is a raspberry scented, savoury charactered glass of joy.
