2014 Chablis, 1er Cru, Fourchaume, Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin (12 x Bottle)
Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, the 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume from Benoît Droin has a pleasant, engaging bouquet of orange blossom and citrus peel, slate aromas surfacing with time although the aromatics never quite let go fully. Holding something back for later? I think so. The palate is well balanced with a very subtle reduction on the entry. The acidity is very well judged and this conveys a sense of energy and tension all the way through to the finish, completing what is a really quite superb Fourchaume. Excellent.

Vinous
Pale yellow-green. Aromas of pineapple, flowers and anise suggest high acidity. Then tight on the palate, with slightly streaky acidity that still needs time to be digested. Shows a bit less flavor development than the Mont de Milieu and finishes with a faint tannic edge. This wine began in 50% oak, a bit of it new, which was the highest percentage among Droin’s premier crus in 2014.
