2014 Chablis, 1er Cru, Les Lys, Domaine William Fevre (6 x Bottle)
Very pale lemon-yellow. Alsace Riesling-like aromas of lime zest and powdered stone complicated by a touch of olive tapenade reduction. Wonderfully dense and energetic but not hard, conveying terrific breadth and a refined texture to its tactile, saline lime and pineapple flavors. This outstanding, classy wine finishes with subtle rising length and terrific grip. Didier Séguier predicts that this bottling will be at its apogee in five to ten years.

The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru les Lys is a wine from Fevre that really impressed out of vat last year. Now in bottle, it has fulfilled that promise with striking Granny Smith apple, dew-specked pasture and crisp citrus peel aromas. The palate is very well balanced with superb mineralité and tension, very focused and intense with impressive salinity on the finish. While not the best-known vineyard in Chablis, this 2014 certainly illustrates its potential in the right hands.

Vinous
Pale greenish-yellow. Aromas of rhubarb, Chinese pear, lime zest and minerals reminded me a bit of an Alsace Riesling VT; from north-facing vines but the nose suggests full ripeness. Very fresh, sappy and penetrating, showing a tactile quality and strong acidity to its pineapple fruit. This classic, slightly austere Chablis seems less ripe in the mouth than on the nose, but impresses for its impression of extract without weight. Finishes very long and brisk, leaving the mouth refreshed. Serious juice.
