2015 Mercurey Rouge, 1er Cru Clos du Roy, Domaine Faiveley

Bright medium red. More restrained but slightly higher-pitched and more floral on the nose than the Clos des Myglands, showing sexy peppery lift to the red cherry and raspberry fruit aromas. Suaver and finer-grained (the Clos des Myglands is dustier) if currently less expansive, conveying good mineral energy and definition to its red berry, rose petal and spice flavors. Finishes delightfully cool, with notes of cherry, menthol and flowers and a firm spine of ripe tannins. A terrific Mercurey with clarity and spine.

Vinous

(like the Clos des Myglands, this was vinified with 25% whole clusters; tasted from tank shortly before bottling): Moderately saturated bright red. More sappy and mineral-driven on the nose than the Clos des Myglands, offering vibrant scents of raspberry, red cherry and high-pitched spices. Then tighter and a bit more intense on the palate, with its tannins accentuated by minerality. A very impressive Mercurey wine in the making.
