Mouchão is credited as a pioneer of Alicante Bouschet in Portugal’s wine history, being the first estate to introduce and establish it in the Alentejo after Phylloxera devastated the country’s vineyards. A unique grape with a coloured inter ior, Alicante Bouschet gives wines of intense colour and body. Mouchão's 2017 vintage of their namesake wine combines 85% Alicante Bouschet with 15% Trincadeira, giving a concentrated, intense profile of plum jam, spicy black fruit, touches of black olive tapenade, all coupled with a remarkable balance and freshness that mark this wine out as an exceptional example of Alicante Bouschet and a fine wine from Alentejo.

Tasting notes

Deep coloured and concentrated. Full, complex but equally fresh and elegant. The unique tannin structure enhances its cellaring potential. It can improve significantly if kept for up to two decades, or longer.
